Sounds of Wales

Click on the daffodil for the Welsh Family History Archive (WFHA).

Listen to the pronunciation of the place-name of your choice by clicking on its name. On the list below, each place-name is followed by the name of the county in which it is situated.
The Welsh language is spoken with a different accent in different parts of Wales. In particular, Welsh spoken in North Wales sounds very different from that spoken in South Wales, and that in Mid Wales is different again! As most of my time has been spent in South Wales, my pronunciation of places in South Wales will be more authentic than for elsewhere.

Note: The sound files are in the popular "MP3" format. With some web browsers, the selected sound file will play automatically, while with others you may need to select "Open file" in the dialogue box that appears.
